Losing My Mind
by joelbear ini feel like i have been slowly losing my mind since the age of 10 or so, maybe before that.
the process seems to be speeding up.
it may just be an inevitable fact of my existence.

You Can't Get It Back
by Big Dog inthe higher education thread got me thinking about the thing i loathe, despise, hate with the intensity of a thousand suns about the wbts, namely, the loss of my childhood.
i remember when engaging in blistering arguements with my parents about being able to play sports or take up an instrument or dream of being an astronaut, or whatever thing the society frowned on that i wasn't allowed to do at the end i would always get the same final reply, "when you are 18 and out of the house you can do whatever you want.
i can go back and play pop warner football, or little league baseball, or play in the school band, etc?

I hear you BIg Dog. Even though you move on it feels like an old injury that still aches when the thunderstorm approaches.

I always wanted to try out for my school football team. I remember one year in high school I was complaining about how miserable the team actually was. All of a sudden the team quarterback quipped "I don’t see you out there doing any better!" He was absolutely right and I shouldn’t have been criticizing. But the point is, I wasn’t allowed. It was against the rules.
Its one thing to talk about organized sports, but it’s a whole different issue when you start talking about potential careers. There were myriads of things that I was interested in career wise but instead of pursuing any of my interests I got "guided" to a vocational or trade school. I’m not doing too badly for my family or myself today but I could be so much more.
I strive to live my life now for every moment. I realize that I am unable to change anything about the past. I also realize that even if I could change one singular moment of my history that I would be a different person and perhaps in a different place. Then I think about all the things that I’m thankful for, my wife, my house, my children, and I realize that it’s all OK.
The bottom line for me is that this organization will not affect my children as it did me and if presented with the opportunity to speak out regarding the dangers that TWBTS presents you better believe I’ll be there with a megaphone.

I wholeheartedly agree Big Dog. The only consolation that I have is that I enjoy a vicarious childhood through my own children.
One thing for certain, when my children display a particular skill or gift I will do everything in my power to give them the tools, training, experience, or education required to help them advance or thrive.

How do you interact on the board?
by Fe2O3Girl inhow do you use the board?
do you bother reading people's posts when you start a topic, and acknowledge their response?.
do you read all the posts on a thread when you post to see if someone has added more details, or already posted what you would have said?

Do you bother reading people's posts when you start a topic, and acknowledge their response?
I have yet to start a topic. Im am sure that when I do I will try to read and respond to as many of the posts as possible.
Do you read all the posts on a thread when you post to see if someone has added more details, or already posted what you would have said? Or just respond to the original post and ignore the rest?
I try to read everyone's input before posting. I dont care for redundancy much.
Are you an old thread reviver, bringing 3 year old threads back to the top?
I do although I havent done it recently.
Do you feel it is very important to type a response to a troll that made one post three days ago and hasn't said anything since?
Not unless I notice they're still around posting on other topics. If they're not posting on any topics, odds are there gone and may not be back for some time if at all. With that in mind I dont feel like taking the time to even consider responding. They obviously have doubts about their life style otherwise the would heed the WTBTS warnings and avoid this site like the plague.
Do you find that you get very little feedback to your posts, or that you are generally a thread killer? I do.
I enjoy the the challenge of killing a thread but often feel an emptiness or void once it over. I dont really feel like I get a lot of feedback but that's OK. -

What happens when
by carla inwhat happens when meetings have to be cancled due to power outages or something?
i'm not talking major things like katrina.
do they make up an extra meeting or do they just skip that one altogether?
-

I too had a few meetings cancelled during my 16 or 17 year stint with the "Friends". As far as I can remember they just skipped that particular meeting. Of course the brothers and sisters are strongly encouraged to study the scheduled literature non the less.

I Can't Believe JW Relative Called
by Jeannine inmy husband and i have been basically ignored for about 15 years by most of his jw family.
his mom calls once every few months, but only to ask for money (yes, she is a mooch).
both of his brothers are elders.

I truly hope that your husband and his brother can come to some kind of agreement. Perhaps your brother-in-law is indeed experiencing conflict regarding his religion. However, I would advise you and your husband to proceed cautiously. I realize that it’s difficult especially when your brother-in-law calls out of the blue and stirs up this whirlwind of emotion. He may still be a firmly rooted JW that will eventually turn away yet again if he feels that he cant make any progress in bringing your husband back into the flock.
I don’t want to come across as a pessimist. I guess in my opinion it’s better to be prepared for the worst and to be surprised when things go well then it is to hope for the best to be disappointed when things fall apart. At least in this situation any way.

I think that this song would apply to a great deal of politicians regardless of the nation of orgin.
The Package by A Perfect Circle
Clever got me this far
Then tricky got me in
Eye on what i'm after
I don't need another friend
Smile and drop the cliche
'Till you think I'm listening
I take just what I came for
Then I'm out the door again
Peripheral on the package
Don't care to settle in
Time to feed the monster
I don't need another friend
Comfort is a mystery
Crawling out of my own skin
Just give me what I came for, then I'm out the door again
Lie to get what I came for
Lie to get just what I need
Lie to get what I crave
Lie and smile to get what's mine
Eye on what i'm after
I don't need another friend
Nod and watch your lips move
If you need me to pretend
Because clever got me this far
Then tricky got me in
I'll take just what I came for
Then I'm out the door again
Lie to get what I came for
Lie to get what I need now
Lie to get what I'm craving
Lie and smile to get what's mine
Give this to me
Mine, mine, mine
Take what's mine
Mine, mine, mine
Take what's mine
Mine, mine, mine
Lie to get what I came for
Lie to get what I need now
Lie to get what I'm craving
Lie to smile and get what's mine
Give this to me
Take what's mine
Mine, mine, mine
Take what's mine
Give this to me
Take what's mine, take what's mine, mine...
Take what's mine, take what's mine, take what's mine,
This is mine, mine, mine -

How many exJWs are now pagan? Why?
by Sirona ini was just wondering how many exjehovahs witnesses are now pagan?
of the exjws i've met, quite a few either describe themselves as pagan or pretty much have "pagan" type religious views.. i wonder if it is a backlash against the control of the jws - to choose a religion which has "no rules" as such.
also, is it rebellion?
-
Darth Yhwh
I don’t consider my self pagan by any means although I do agree with Frank Lloyd Wright in that I feel the earth is my church.
I fast on Winter solstice. My wife celebrates Christmas and because I have never celebrated it myself and currently have difficulty justifying doing so I’ve decided to begin my own spiritual reason for celebration. I’ve thought about expanding my fasting days to include the equinoxes and Summer solstice but I have a hard time with Winter solstice. I realize it’s mind over matter but my mind isn’t what it used to be.
